New rail network for the Mediterranean corridor

04/07/2013

Author/s: Joan Saura Serrat

The project starts with an analysis of the existing railway network in the Mediterranean corridor. Combining the present state with the existing planning, all shortcomings detected are analyzed. Knowing the European standards for interoperability, a new rail network is designed in order to solve all the existing conflicts in the Spanish net between the French and the Portuguese border, both for high speed and freight traffic. In addition, the study proposes the necessary steps in order to develop the new network, considering the traffic demand in all the different itineraries studied.
